Form 2 - Studies & Design of Form through Drawing

Orthography

The Orientation module marked our first step into college. We began by drawing our dreams, each sketch carrying various emotions and experiences.

Translating the drawing into an installation, we aimed to create a model that allowed others to experience the emotions we portrayed. Between figuring out what the installation may look like and what material to use, the form of the installation was decided spontaneously just like the unpredictable nature of our drawing. We tried suspending fabric to achieve a flowing form, experimented with netted fabric and PoP(Plaster of Paris), and eventually, we chose corrugated paper for its balance of stiffness and malleability.

Working with corrugated sheets for the first time added another layer of difficulty. We learned to cut, tuck, stitch, and fold the material to create smooth, flowing forms. We took advantage of the sheet’s fluidity to form curves and crevices, transforming a corner of the studio into an immersive space.
